Caring for Your Windows

How to keep your uPVC and aluminium windows looking and performing their best, year after year.

Modern uPVC and aluminium windows are designed to be low maintenance β€” but a little routine care keeps them looking smart and working smoothly for many years.

Frames

  • Wipe frames down a few times a year with warm soapy water and a soft cloth β€” avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents.
  • uPVC needs no painting, staining or treating; aluminium powder-coated finishes simply need an occasional wipe.
  • Clean out the drainage slots along the bottom of the frame so water can escape freely.

Hardware and seals

  • Lubricate hinges, locks and handles once or twice a year with a light dry lubricant.
  • Keep the rubber gaskets and seals clean and supple with a damp cloth β€” avoid solvents.
  • Operate locks gently and have any stiffness checked rather than forcing the mechanism.

Glass

Clean glass with a standard glass cleaner or warm soapy water. If you notice persistent misting between the panes of a sealed unit, get in touch β€” the unit can usually be replaced while keeping your existing frame.
